You never really know what someone is going through.

Living with a disease, for the last 8 years, that has the capability to attack and take control of your body is, as you can imagine, highly demanding and a battle I have to fight every minute of every second of every day.

When living with diabetes, there are additional components a person must think about on a daily basis. From tracking blood sugar levels, dosing insulin, planning meals, calculating carbs, finding ways to stay active—it’s a lot to figure out and balance. This can leave persons feeling run down, physically/mentally/emotionally drained and completely overwhelmed. This can be categorized as something called ‘diabetes burnout’.

I never really thought there was a specific term classified with these thoughts, feelings, and emotions I experience from time to time.

For me, I feel discouraged, frustrated, and exhausted at times when dealing with diabetes, especially when doing all the right things and still ending up with a negative result..

I get caught up in the everyday life of dealing with diabetes that I forget to check in on how I am really doing (physically, emotionally, and mentally). It is truly so important to stay in touch with ones emotions when managing living with not only diabetes, but any other disease, illness, or disorder. That’s hard to do, I know!! But it starts small!

“Diabetes burnout” happens. & For you, maybe you’ve experienced burnout in a particular situation you’ve encounter or gone through.

It happens to all of us, so here’s your friendly reminder to be there for your neighbor!

Talking about how you feel and sharing your thoughts with someone you know, love, and trust makes all the difference in the world.

Know that you are not alone! 🤍

“Burnout truth is all about showing the realness of having chronic illness burnout and normalizing this experience so that others out there know that it is real.” - @ibdmedical

Behind the Burnout Truth Campaign

We believe it's important to continue our commitment with sharing the support as at the end of the day,  we understand and acknowledge that diabetes management is a 24/7 experience.

With that in mind, we've created a #BurnoutTruth initiative to use this chance to shine a public light on an area that's often experienced in the dark by yourself.

Burnout truth is all about showing the realness of having chronic illness burnout and normalising this experience so that others out there know that it is real. By sharing different community stories, we hope that we're able to communicate that the main message is to know that these things happen because you’re a human, whether it’s with diabetes or outside of having diabetes. 😊
