  • 1 slice wholemeal bread
  • A pinch white pepper
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1 medium egg, lightly beaten
  • 100g onion, finely grated
  • 100g carrot, finely grated
  • 500g lean minced beef
  • 6 wholemeal buns
  • 1 little gem lettuce
  • 1 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tomatoes sliced

Method:

  1. Crumble the bread into a large bowl with the pepper and crushed garlic cloves. Add the lightly beaten egg and mix. Allow is to soak for a couple of minutes before mixing again.
  2. Finely grate the onion and carrot. Add the grated carrot, grated onion and the minced beef into the egg and bread mixture. Mix well and divide the mixture into six.
  3. Using wet hands, shape each portion into a round ball. Then flatten into a burger patty shape that is approximately 2cm thick. Cover the patties and place in the fridge to cool for 20 minutes.
  4. Heat a medium sized frying pan, preferably non-stick. Add the burger patties and leave for about 3-4 minutes. Then flip and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes. If you flip the burger patties too early, they may break.
