Welcome to Stacey's #BurnoutTruth Story

Being a T1D since 1978, I grew up with my late father protecting & guiding me! I didn’t know until only recently that burnout is a thing for T1D!

I want to make more people aware of diabetes burnout!

It was only May this year that my Endo called it when I was just having the worst month, year!

My position at my job was made redundant in Jan, looking for work has never been hard for me, but this time I struggled!

Funds were running out & the first thing to go was my sensors! I had to stop these because I couldn’t afford them!

That was the choice I made at the time & let me tell you, it was the hardest decision for me!

Going back to full time finger pricking was just doing my head in! We have come so far with technology that the thought of going back was just not sitting well with me!

I broke down on my Telehealth appointment with my Endo and the tears wouldn’t stop! I hadn’t found a job yet, I couldn’t afford the sensors, I had the worst cold and my Hb1Ac had gone up as did my cholesterol! It just frustrated me and she could tell, so she called it, you have Diabetes Burnout!

Diabetes burnout is a thing, and lots of diabetics will experience it and they wouldn’t even know they experienced it!

I am writing this as I want to make people aware!

There is nothing wrong with having diabetes burnout , it doesn’t make you weak, or that you’re not controlling your diabetes properly, it just means, it has come to a point where you have given so much and at this stage you can no longer give anymore! You do all the right things, but you still feel like nothing is working!

This is where you need to take care of yourself and not focus so much on the numbers (in conjunction with your Endo of course) and just try to find your love hate relationship with T1D again!

#BurnoutTruth is a thing but the best part, it won’t be for always, with help from your Endo, family and friends you will get through it!

It’s just a moment, and you will get through it!

Today I feel on top of the world, I found a job I love and I'm back on my sensors!

So, be kind to yourself and speak to your loved ones!

Control diabetes, don’t let it control you!

Behind the Burnout Truth Campaign

We believe it's important to continue our commitment with sharing the support as at the end of the day,  we understand and acknowledge that diabetes management is a 24/7 experience.

With that in mind, we've created a #BurnoutTruth initiative to use this chance to shine a public light on an area that's often experienced in the dark by yourself.

Burnout truth is all about showing the realness of having chronic illness burnout and normalising this experience so that others out there know that it is real. By sharing different community stories, we hope that we're able to communicate that the main message is to know that these things happen because you’re a human, whether it’s with diabetes or outside of having diabetes. 😊
