Today we have Jessyka, who is definitely more than just "a mom" in our eyes. Jessyka shares that while the thing she's most proud of in her life is her son Walker, she also knows that it can be easy to get stuck in the rut of being defined as just a stay at home mom. She carries the same attitude when it comes to her diabetes journey and believes it's important to take a stand for a diagnosis that's often misrepresented.
1. What does it mean to you to be a woman?
Kind of a hard question to ask yourself huh? I have found a new meaning on the word “woman” after having my son. I am a Type 1 Diabetic, A wife and a new mama. I have found new strength, new courage and over all new meaning for life as a woman, mom, wife and diabetic.
2. What contributions have you made or what roles do you play in your life that is meaningful to you?
I got asked what I’m most proud of. Of course the first thing that comes to my mind is my son, Walker. I am also proud of the small business I created all on my own. My instagram that helps spread diabetes awareness and encouragement. I wanted to start a little business for myself because its easy to get stuck in the rut of “I am just a mom”. I wanted to change that, I want to give a new meaning behind “stay at home mom”. Moms all over are literally super heroes, we keep crazy little humans alive everyday… moms dealing with little humans and diabetes is a different story.
3. What empowered you to stand taller in the face of diabetes?
Diabetes is such a misunderstood disease that its hard to explain into words how demanding it can be at times. Let me just say its kind of like having another child, but with yourself. Having to keep yourself alive along with a kid or some of multiple kids.
I want to stand for diabetics all over the world and I also want to stand for diabetics moms out there. I love to stand for this invisible disease and empower woman also. We always have so much weighing on our shoulders and I just want to spread positivity and confidence that we are not alone in this and that we can do anything we set our minds too!

International Women's Day represents various things for different people. This is an important day to celebrate all women, but it’s also a day to support #BreakingTheBias for all genders (whether you identify as a woman, man, both, neither or somewhere in between).
To celebrate this day, Glucology is collaborating with some women in the diabetes community to spotlight their value and achievements. The message here is that there is a lot of strength behind anyone, regardless of where you come from or who you are.
